Strong Woman with an Important Mission

Sharina Perry grew up in the south and saw firsthand what it meant to be an “African American Woman” before she knew what it meant to be a “Business Woman”. Now as the founder of Utopia Plastix, she is on a mission to make sure “minority business” is something to be infinitely proud of. She continues to be driven by personal accounts of minority farmers and business owners who have been impacted by land misuse and economic hardship. Sharina has a goal to help multi-generational minority and disadvantaged families and their communities.

As a teenager, Sharina was inspired to imagine something better. A perfect world where people worked together, supported, and relied on each other. When faced with challenges, she said to herself and anyone else who would listen, “If only we could live in Utopia.”

Determination to Rise . . .

Hope and resiliency embodied in the image of “Utopia” sealed Sharina’s determination to rise above society’s problems and be a part of creating “Solutions”. She excelled in her studies, built a successful business, raised a family, sought out alignment and collaborations with business and civic leaders, and set her sights on addressing social and ecological issues that could transform not only America, but would ultimately have the potential to transform the world.

Sharina created the Utopia Solutions business model to capture her childhood aspirations. By turning away from common, single use, eco-destroying packaging, the goal was to develop alternative plant-based materials that are compostable and degradable. These will create more opportunity for farmers and still fit seamlessly into existing manufacturing operations.

Utopia’s first focus was plant-based plastic. The need is urgent as petroleum-based plastics are choking trash collection systems, polluting our oceans, poisoning sea life, creating dependence on foreign resources, and proving to be a worldwide problem that has no end in sight.
